The Municipal Joint Services Board was formed in 2013 through a cost sharing agreement. Its purpose is to improve services for the residents of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and the Towns of Bridgewater and Mahone Bay.

Each partnering municipality has assigned members to sit on the Board. Members report to their respective Municipal Councils, providing updates and identifying future shared service opportunties.

The Lunenburg Regional Community Recycling Centre was the first shared service to be administered by the Board. Information technology was introduced in 2015. Human Resources shared services launched in 2019.
