Residents of the Municipality of Lunenburg, Town of Bridgewater and Town of Mahone Bay can place bulky items at these times:

Two bulky landfill items can be placed curbside every two weeks on your garbage collection day in all three areas. Wood and metal items not collected until fall.

Wood and metal items can be placed curbside during a special fall collection. Wood and metal items are collected during a dedicated fall collection so they can be recycled and diverted from landfill. 

Bi-weekly Bulky Landfill Collection Guidelines: Each item can measure up to 1.8 m and weigh up to 100 kgs each in the Municipality and the Towns.

Wood and Metal Collection Guidelines (collected during special fall pick up):             

Municipality combined wood and metal volume of 4 cubic metres collected, each item can weigh up to 140 kgs. 

4 cubic metres: 2 metres (6.5 feet) x 2 metres (6.5 feet) x 1 metre (3.2 feet)

Bridgewater & Mahone Bay combined wood and metal volume of 2 cubic metres, total combined weight of 100 kgs of wood and metal collected.    

2 cubic metres: 2 metres (6.5 feet) x 1 metre (3.2 feet) x 1 metre (3.2 feet)

Spikes and brackets over 15 cms (6 inches) must be removed from wooden items before placing for collection. 

Collection Schedules

Collectible bulky landfill items: mattresses, boxsprings, couches, upholstered chairs, pillows, plastic furniture, rugs, carpet, toilets, sinks, acrylic bathtubs, doors with windows, vinyl siding, drywall, insulation, vacuum cleaners, laundry baskets, plastic totes, kids swimming pools, artifical Christmas trees, ceramic lamp frames and shades. 

Collectible wood and metal Items (collected during special fall pick up):

Metal: barbecues, stoves, washers, dryers, hot plates, vehicle rims, bicycles, hot water tanks, toaster ovens, toasters, radiators, swing sets, metal doors without windows and metal lamp frames.

Wood: tables, chairs, desks, dressers, shelves, wooden doors without windows, pallets, boards.

Fridges, freezers, dehumidifiers and water coolers cannot be collected at the curb if they contain gas. These items must also display a refrigerant-free sticker Drop them off free of charge at the Recycling Centre, 908 Mullock Road, Whynott's Settlement. Gases will be drained.
