Illegal Dumping

Nova Scotia Environment (NSE) enforces all illegal dumping activity in accordance with Sections 127 - Litter Control and Section 99 (2) - Litter Prevention of the Environment Act.

The province is increasing enforcement through surveillance at highly active sites in an effort to reduce the amount of dangerous and unsightly debris. In many cases of illegal dumping, hazardous matierial is found that is harmful to the environment, wildlife and surrounding residents who come in contact with the site or has a nearby drinking well.

Illegal dumping is an offence that can be avoided by disposing of materials properly through your municipal waste system. The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and the Towns of Bridgewater and Mahone Bay offer curbside collection of most wastes through Spring and Fall Clean Up.  Residential household hazardous waste can be dropped off at the Recycling Centre during regular operating hours at NO COST!

We kindly ask that residents help discourage illegal dumping by reporting activity to (902) 543-4685 or after hours 1-800-565-2224.
