Leaf & Yard Waste Collection

Paper Leaf Bags

Paper bags are the best option for leaf and yard waste collection!

These bags remain durable while sitting at the curbside. During the composting process: paper bags grind easily and biodegrade quickly as leaves and yard waste are blended with food waste from green carts. Plastic bags and biodegradable bags often get stuck in grinding equipment - they do not break down.

Municipality of the District of Lunenburg

Residents may place three (3) bags of leaves and a green cart during their regular bi-weekly collection. If residents do not place a green cart during regular collection, they may place four (4) bags of leaves for collection.

Leaves may be placed in:

  • a green cart, with lid closed
  • heavy duty, paper yard waste bags
  • clear, colourless plastic bags

Branches and limbs:

  • may be up to 3 feet long, each individual piece may be of a diameter no greater than 2 inches
  • branches must be tied into bundles weighing no more than 55 lbs per bundle
  • may be placed in a green cart for collection, ensuring branches are cut according to the above-listed dimensions
